2018 Volunteer Hall of Fame: Elaine Thompson

Elaine Thompson

Colorado Springs, Care and Share Food Bank for Southern Colorado

Since 2012, Elaine has changed families’ lives as a Class Assistant for 18 courses, and 1 tour, serving 244 families total. Elaine achieved Hall of Fame status in 2017.

“Healthy food has been a large part of my life since childhood. Food and Nutrition was one of my majors in college, and I was once a Home Economics teacher. Upon retirement, I wanted a volunteer opportunity that would make a difference in others' lives. I learned about Cooking Matters, and I was instantly in love. I respect all that Cooking Matters stands for. It is always a joy to work with the participants, many of whom I have run into. There is always a high-five for Cooking Matters and all that they have learned and implemented. The coordinators, the site contacts, and the varied locales of the classes are wonderful! The other volunteers are amazing! Cooking Matters is a volunteer position that matters, and I am very blessed to be part of it!!!”
