Cooking Matters Colorado Receives $42,019 from Albertsons’ Nourishing Neighbors Breakfast Campaign
DENVER, Colorado November 30, 2020 – Cooking Matters Colorado is excited to receive a $42,019 grant from Albertsons Companies and the Safeway Foundation from their Nourishing Neighbors initiative to eradicate childhood hunger. The funds will be used to empower low-income parents and caregivers of children ages 0-5 to shop for and cook healthy, affordable meals.
By improving access to healthy, affordable meals for low-income families, Cooking Matters is helping end hunger, especially for kids too young to attend school. When kids eat good food, they’re stronger and healthier. But shopping and cooking healthy is tough, especially for families struggling with limited food budgets and a lack of options. That’s where Cooking Matters comes in.
Cooking Matters serves thousands of Colorado families each year. A long-term study showed that after Cooking Matters courses, families reported only “rarely” running out of food before the end of the month, compared to “sometimes,” as reported before a course.
Nourishing Neighbors, a charitable program of Albertsons Companies and Safeway Foundation, is designed to build awareness and raise funds in an effort to eradicate childhood hunger in America. This year’s campaign ran from September 1 – September 30 and raised $42,019 to support Cooking Matters Colorado programming.
