Teach adults, kids, and teens how to cook and shop for healthy, low-cost meals. Culinary instructors combine their knowledge and experience with the lesson plans and recipes provided in the Cooking Matters curricula. Culinary volunteers are usually culinary school graduates, are currently enrolled in a culinary training program, or have at least two years working as a cook or chef.
Teach adults, kids, and teens how to make healthier food choices. Nutrition instructors use the lesson plans and instructional materials provided in the Cooking Matters curricula, along with their own expertise, to teach skills such as reading food labels and understanding whole grains. Nutrition volunteers are typically graduates of or enrolled in dietetics programs or have at least two years working in a nutrition or dietetics position.
Help before, during and after classes. Duties may include shopping for food, handing out and collecting class materials, engaging reluctant participants, helping with set up and clean up, or taking photos during class to help record the Cooking Matters course experience.
Cooking Matters at the Store Facilitators
Lead interactive tours that teach families how to purchase healthier foods on a limited budget. Using our talking points and support resources, facilitators help with guided tours and tour events tours in the community. Community members can also be trained to organize and lead their own tours for low-income families in their community.
Needs may vary from helping promote special events on social media, to procuring auction items, to working the event itself. Any community member can support these efforts.
